Announcing Monthly Grants Postings for Canadian Nonprofits

GrantStation, an online funding resource for organizations seeking grants throughout the world, is pleased to announce the introduction of the GrantStation Canadian Insider.

“I think this is a fantastic idea. As budgets become increasingly stretched and time available to research grant availability more and more constrained, a publication focusing solely on grantmakers accepting requests from Canadian charities will be a boon to Canadian charitable organizations,” said Carolyn Nordheimer James, CEO, Whitchurch-Stouffville Public Library, a Canadian organization. “This is a magical holiday gift from GrantStation.”

“This newsletter will provide Canadian charities and nonprofit organizations timely information on funding opportunities each month,” said Cynthia M. Adams, CEO and President of GrantStation.  The Canadian Insider, which will feature information relevant to a wide range of Canadian charities, including organizations working in education, health, social services, community development, children and youth, and the environment, will be published 11 times a year but will only be available to those organizations with full Membership access to the GrantStation website.

“For years we have made announcements relevant to Canadian organizations in both the GrantStation Insider and the International Insider,” said Adams, “but it was clearly time to acknowledge that Canadian charities want, and need, a newsletter to accompany the other resources we offer via our website.”

Full Members of GrantStation have access to a comprehensive and searchable Canadian charitable giving database which provides profiles of private grantmakers who give throughout Canada and within particular provinces and territories, as well as provincial government grant and loan programs.

The first Canadian Insider newsletter will be available on January 16th, 2012 in the Member’s area of GrantStation.com.

If you are a grantmaker and would like to submit a grant announcement for the GrantStation Canadian Insider, please contact the editor, Ashlyn Simmons.

Grantseekers Continue to Struggle Amidst Economic Woes

Fairbanks, AK and Washington, DC (December 5, 2011)

Grantseeking activities are stagnating as nonprofits try to find new sources of funding to replace reduced government and other funds, according to the findings of a recent survey on The State of Grantseeking recently conducted by GrantStation and PhilanTech.

The State of Grantseeking Fall 2011 is the third semi-annual informal survey of nonprofits conducted by GrantStation and PhilanTech to help reveal the current state of grantseeking in the U.S.  Between mid-August and early October 2011, GrantStation and PhilanTech invited nonprofit organizations throughout the country to participate in an online survey to help determine the present state of grantseeking.

“With well over 900 respondents representing nonprofits of different sizes and issue areas nationwide, these survey results provide a sense of the current trends in grantseeking and begin to shed light on the challenges nonprofit organizations face at the end of 2011,” said Cynthia Adams, CEO of GrantStation.

“While nonprofits remain optimistic about their ability to raise funds and deliver services,” said Dahna Goldstein, Founder of PhilanTech, “many organizations – particularly smaller organizations – are applying for more grants but receiving smaller grants.”

Other findings from the survey included:

  • A majority of organizations applied for more grants, but increased efforts only resulted in more grant funds for 26% of respondents;
  • The average size of grants decreased from the same period last year;
  • Economic and organizational conditions present the greatest challenges to nonprofits’ grantseeking efforts.  Researching and finding grants was cited as the greatest challenge by 31% of nonprofits, while competition for a reduced amount of funding dollars was the greatest challenge for 23% of nonprofits;
  • And yet 81% of nonprofits think their grant funding will be consistent or better in the next 6 months.

The survey was open from August 18, 2011 until October 2, 2011, and received 928 complete responses.  While nonprofit organizations of all sizes responded to the survey, the majority could be considered small to mid-sized organizations:

  • One third (33%) had one to five staff members; and,
  • Over half (60%) had budgets under $1,000,000.

“This survey and the corresponding report were intended to present a ground level look at the state of grantseeking,” said Ms. Adams. “We hope that this information is helpful to nonprofits as they plan their 2012 grantseeking strategies.”

NAHHH Expands Partnership with GrantStation

NAHHH LogoThe National Association of Hospital Hospitality Houses, Inc. (NAHHH) has become the latest partner to join GrantStation’s MVP Program. “We have been pleased with the services provided to NAHHH throughout our GrantStation Membership, and we want to extend those benefits to our organization’s members,” said Karylinn Echols, NAHHH’s Executive Director.

For over 25 years, NAHHH members have provided free or low cost, home-like, lodging for patients and families who must travel away from home to receive medical care. Without hospital hospitality housing services, families face significant financial hardship and, on occasion, do not pursue treatment because they cannot afford to stay in another community. Hospital hospitality houses help and heal hundreds of thousands of families each year across North America.

“We are so proud to be part of the NAHHH community,” said GrantStation CEO & President Cynthia Adams. “Their strategic vision to create collaborations and build value for their members was a perfect match for our partnership program. We’re honored to be a part of that plan.”

Ms. Echols said that the most important thing she sees this partnership providing for her members is, “easily accessible and accurate information about prospective funding opportunities.”

GrantStation’s Membership Value Program (MVP) is a great way for partner organizations to add value to the benefits they already offer to their constituent organizations, field offices, and members. StreamLink Software Partners with GrantStation

StreamLink Software, a provider of management systems for the nonprofit sector, recently joined GrantStation’s MVP Program. “We wanted to partner with a grant research organization that has the unique ability to provide international, state, private, and federal funding opportunities,” said Dave Carpenter, Executive Vice President of Business Development for StreamLink Software. ”This will be a complement to our grants management solution, AmpliFund.”

StreamLink’s philosophy is to maximize the value of every dollar an organization has and thus increase the ability of the organization to meet its mission. The company recognizes the complexity involved with managing operating budgets, cash budgets, capital budgets, and proposal budgets (for fundraising) and offers a virtual grant office in the form of their AmpliFund software. AmpliFund provides nonprofit managers with a tool to effectively manage results by tracking both spending and performance for every grant and contract. StreamLink Software is offered as a hosted model and does not require additional investments in IT infrastructure.

“Grants management is one of the most difficult, and I would even say onerous, parts of grantseeking,” said GrantStation CEO & President Cynthia Adams. “So having a partner that provides this kind of software to nonprofits is really helpful. I am eager to not only hear about how StreamLink’s clients like GrantStation, but I am curious to know how our GrantStation Members like StreamLink’s software.”

When asked why StreamLink joined GrantStation’s MVP program, Mr. Carpenter said, “We wanted to provide our customers with the tools to be successful.”

LANO Enhances Member Benefits with GrantStation MVP Program

The Louisiana Association of Nonprofit Organizations (LANO), a statewide membership organization that advocates for the nonprofit community, has supplemented their GrantStation Insider offering by joining GrantStation’s MVP Program. “A source for grant opportunities and related information is a frequent request of our membership,” said Matt Mullenix, Vice President of Public Relations for LANO.  “Diverse funding sources are essential in down economies, when nonprofits are constantly in the hunt to replace lost revenue.  We are very pleased to partner with Regions Morgan Keegan Trust, a foundation management expert, to make GrantStation available to all our members from the convenience of their own desks.”

LANO was founded by the Council for a Better Louisiana, and in 1999 they separately incorporated and received their 501(c)(3) status from the IRS. LANO’s mission is to be Louisiana’s “go-to” source for high quality information, tools, resources, and member benefits. They also work to be a written and spoken voice of advocacy for and about Louisiana’s nonprofit sector.

“The Membership Value Program (MVP) is a great way for partner organizations to add value to the benefits they already offer to their constituent organizations, field offices, and/or members,” said GrantStation CEO & President, Cynthia Adams. “Through MVP, partner organizations purchase a volume of GrantStation Memberships at a significant discount for their constituent organizations.”

Mr. Mullenix said, “LANO is always looking for the next great member benefit. We know that nonprofits cannot afford to invest in a membership organization without a strong and measureable return on that investment. Our members need money back for their annual dues, and we believe GrantStation’s MVP Program will be an important new way to make that happen.”

Ms. Adams said, “By providing full access to GrantStation’s numerous searchable databases of funding opportunities, we are attempting to keep organizations in front when it comes to grantseeking, and LANO recognizes this strategy.”

NPPG Expands GrantStation Partnership with International Insider

The Non-Profit Purchasing Group (NPPG), an organization dedicated to assisting nonprofit organizations, has expanded their partnership with GrantStation to include distributing the International Insider e-newsletter to its constituents. “We decided to partner with GrantStation because we only team up with the best possible suppliers of products and services for our members. We feel that there is nobody else who understands the grant needs of nonprofit organizations like GrantStation does,” said Alex Golin, President & CEO of NPPG.  “GrantStation’s information is timely, concise and accurate… everything that an organization is looking for when they are searching for funding for their programs.”

The Non-Profit Purchasing Group (NPPG) is committed to lowering the recurring costs of small business and nonprofit organizations by providing its members with discounted rates on their most commonly purchased goods and services. NPPG is known as a Group Purchasing Organization (GPO) which offers savings to nonprofits who join. They also reinvest in the nonprofit community by donating ten percent of their net income to charity.

NPPG first became a co-brand partner with GrantStation in early 2010 by offering the weekly e-newsletter, the GrantStation Insider. “When NPPG came on board as a GrantStation partner, it was exciting to bring on an organization with a focus on group-buying for the nonprofit sector,” said Cynthia Adams, GrantStation’s CEO. “With NPPG’s recent expansion into the Canadian market, I am confident they will be able to bring the power of group-purchasing and GrantStation to a new group of nonprofits.”

Mr. Golin agrees. “What I’m hoping the partnership between NPPG and GrantStation will bring to our members is a one-stop search engine that helps save them time and money in their grant research. There are many companies out there that promise the complete list of available grant sources, but only GrantStation actually delivers what grantseekers are really looking for.”

Providers’ Council Partners with GrantStation

“As state and federal budgets continue to endure cuts and present revenue challenges to nonprofit organizations’ ability to fulfill their missions, it is increasingly important that all nonprofits diversify their funding sources. Timely information on grant opportunities is essential for those organizations who may seek alternative funding sources in their efforts to survive and thrive in providing high-quality services and benefits to our state’s communities,” said Michael D. Weekes, President/CEO of the Providers’ Council, a Massachusetts-based membership organization for human service providers.

According to Weekes, “Many nonprofit human services organizations cannot afford to dedicate full-time staff or other major resources to grant research, and the process can often be overwhelming. There are, however, affordable ways for organizations to streamline the grantseeking process, while learning important strategies and being more competitive with applications for grant opportunities.”

“The Providers’ Council, therefore, is very excited to announce our partnership with GrantStation, a fantastic tool that can help nonprofits of any budget find the grant opportunities which they are seeking, while also providing plenty of support and information about applying for grants. The Council is able to offer GrantStation at an amazingly affordable price to its members and any human services organization in Massachusetts,” Weekes said. “For more information about this exciting and affordable benefit, please visit our website or contact Meg Helming at mhelming@providers.org or 617.428.3637 x111.”

In addition to this new benefit, the Providers’ Council’s 36th Annual Convention and Expo is taking place on November 29th at the Marriott Copley Place Hotel in Boston. The convention, which draws 1,000 attendees annually and is the largest event of its kind in the Northeast, also features over 30 workshops that cover a wide variety of topics, along with an opportunity to talk to more than 70 businesses and institutions that work hand-in-hand with agencies in the Massachusetts nonprofit sector to strengthen our community.

Michigan Nonprofit Association Offers Insider to Member Organizations

Fall just got a little warmer for hundreds of nonprofit organizations affiliated with the Michigan Nonprofit Association (MNA). Bill Gesaman, MNA’s Membership Manager, said whenever they have polled the organizations with whom they work, grantseeking is constantly among the top areas of interest. To respond to this heightened interest, MNA has just launched a partnership with GrantStation and is now offering the GrantStation Insider, a premiere philanthropic e-publication, to its 850+ active member organizations.

Incorporated in 1990 as the Michigan Nonprofit Forum, the organization was first a think-tank dedicated to discussing issues impacting nonprofits. In 1994, the organization was reemerged as the Michigan Nonprofit Association to provide direct advocacy and support services to local nonprofit organizations.

“The flexible, inclusive nature of the Association’s network leaves us the creative space to continually add to the benefits we offer our members, such as this partnership with GrantStation, and other cost and time saving services,” said Mr. Gesaman.

“It is a pleasure to add the Michigan Nonprofit Association to our current list of co-branded e-newsletter partners. Michigan is one of the few states where GrantStation does not have a substantial presence, so it is a great opportunity for us to share grants information with organizations in that region of the country,” said Cynthia Adams, CEO of GrantStation.

Ms. Adams said, “Many nonprofits look for that extra edge or boost when it comes to securing funds for their organization. With the variety of tools GrantStation has to offer, not to mention the weekly GrantStation Insider which is filled with numerous grant opportunities, I feel that this partnership with MNA will help any of their active member organizations find the right funding.”

If you would like to learn more about the GrantStation Co-Branded e-Newsletter Program, please contact Angel Knapp, Vice President of Sales.

Bohse & Associates Joins GrantStation Partner Program

“Our goal is to give our clients as many resources as possible to make them successful,” said Pat Bohse, President of Bohse & Associates. Bohse & Associates, a nationwide leader in the field of consulting, recently partnered with GrantStation to launch the delivery of the weekly e-newsletter, the GrantStation Insider, to their readers.

Bohse & Associates, based in Middletown, NJ, was founded over 20 years ago. Since 1989, Bohse & Associates has consistently aided clients in developing and managing results oriented initiatives that drive efficiency and productivity.

“The GrantStation Insider is another tool that our clients and potential clients can use not only for finding funds, but also to aid them in their grant writing,” said Ms. Bohse.

“We’ve worked with Pat on and off for years now,” said Cynthia Adams, GrantStation’s CEO. “Her Company always delivers top of the line assistance to nonprofit organizations, and we are very happy to add them to the almost 200 partners we now have that deliver the weekly GrantStation Insider.”

“Our Company is known for listening to its clients’ stories and quickly identifying the real issues facing an organization,” said Ms. Bohse. “But it is our cadre of associates that can truly deliver the solutions. Because of our associates we are able to assemble a team that can deal with even the thorniest of organizational problems, customizing our response to very specific situations. We develop relationships with organizations which in most cases are long lasting. And I think that way of serving our clients is what attracted me to establishing a partnership with GrantStation. It’s the same concern for delivering customized information, which GrantStation certainly does via its numerous searchable databases of grantmakers.”

In addition to the weekly GrantStation Insider, Bohse & Associates also provides a monthly e-blast with hints and tips about organizational development. The Company also has a weekly Internet radio show (www.blogtalkradio.com/notforprofitexchange) where you can listen and learn more about the best practices to use for your organization.

“We can help organizations open new doors of opportunity, enabling them to be operationally sound, fiscally responsible, and capable of providing new services that are on target. Our tool kit includes consultation services, public speaking/presentations at conferences, strategic planning, technical assistance, grant consulting, customized training, and accountability coaching,” Bohse said.
